In the beginning of 1960, nets that were used in Greece were primarily made out of cotton thread, which provided a great challenge for the fishermen, because they had to wash and dry the nets after fishing in order for the nets not to rot.
With the invention of nylon, the Japanese started producing nets using this fabric, resulting to the fishermen not having to go through the process of washing and drying their net. That created the need of importing nets made out of nylon from Japan.
Ioakim Diamantidis - father of the current owners of the company had the nickname Δίοπας (Diopas). This nickname was given to him (a common custom at the time) because of his rank in the Hellenic navy forces. So Ioakim Diamantidis started getting involved in importing fishing nets and selling them to fishermen at his region of Nea Michaniona and another region nearby as well.
After the death of Ioakim Diamantidis, in 1982 his sons continued his vision by selling fishing nets. Diopas S.A. company gradually evolved and started processing fishing nets.
In 1993 the sons of Ioakeim Diamantidis renamed the company, in honor of their father, to "Diopas SA". Then they started the construction of net cages for fish farming, as well as the impregnation of the nets with the antifouling coating and other materials.
Expanding its activities in the beginning of 2000, the company started focusing on producing nets for sports, protection, shadowing and wind proofing.
Until 2014, Diopas S.A. company, used to buy the nets in pieces which were either sold as they were or they were transformed and traded as final products.
With the advent of the third generation in the company, in 2014, Diopas S.A. proceeded to vertical integration of its production by investing in the necessary machinery equipment for the production of nets.
Since then, Diopas S.A. has the ability to produce nets from scratch, according to its customers’ requirements.
After 2014, Diopas S.A. introduced for the first time the knotted net cage in the Greek fish farms and was the first to produce knotted nets in the country.
In 2015, in collaboration with the University of Crete and the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (ELKETHE), Diopas S.A. created an internationally patented. This is the pyramid net, of simple construction, but at the same time a great discovery, which has been proven to increase the fish population.
Diopas S.A. innovates and manufactures "bulletproof" nets, which significantly reduce the cost of managing nets and fuel consumption.
Since 2017, Diopas SA collects the old nets and sends them for recycling in Greece and abroad.
In 2018, the company Diopas S.A. began the expansion of its facilities, covering an area of 10,000 sq.m., which is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

Diopas S.A. starts from the raw material, the yarn, which after being properly processed, is placed in the special machines to produce the net. After the net is made, it passes to the processing department, where the necessary interventions are made according to the requirements of each customer.
Diopas S.A. is ISO 9001:2015 certified and has a complete laboratory that tests the strength of the nets it manufactures in terms of tensile and friction.
Diopas S.A. has the special software of the company Simrad through which it is possible to analyze, design and simulate the behavior of nets at sea with the ultimate goal of reducing fuel consumption by up to 20%.
