HISTORY

In the beginning of 1960, nets that were used in Greece were primarily made out of cotton thread, which provided a great challenge for the fishermen, because they had to wash and dry the nets after fishing in order for the nets not to rot.

With the invention of nylon, the Japanese started producing nets using this fabric, resulting to the fishermen not having to go through the process of washing and drying their net. That created the need of importing nets made out of nylon from Japan.

1958

Ο Ioakim Diamantidis – father of the current owners of the company had the nickname Δίοπας (Diopas). This nickname was given to him (a common custom at the time) because of his rank in the Hellenic navy forces. So Ioakim Diamantidis started getting involved in importing fishing nets and selling them to fishermen at his region of Nea Michaniona and another region nearby as well.

1982

After the death of Ioakim Diamantidis, in 1982 his sons continued his vision by selling fishing nets. Diopas S.A. company gradually evolved and started processing fishing nets.

1993

In 1993 the sons of Ioakeim Diamantidis renamed the company, in honor of their father, to “Diopas SA”. Then they started the construction of net cages for fish farming, as well as the impregnation of the nets with the antifouling coating and other materials.

2014

Until 2014, Diopas S.A. company, used to buy the nets in pieces which were either sold as they were or they were transformed and traded as final products.

With the advent of the third generation in the company, in 2014, Diopas S.A. proceeded to vertical integration of its production by investing in the necessary machinery equipment for the production of nets.

Since then, Diopas S.A. has the ability to produce nets from scratch, according to its customers’ requirements.

After 2014, Diopas S.A. introduced for the first time the knotted net cage in the Greek fish farms and was the first to produce knotted nets in the country.

This is the pyramid net, of simple construction, but at the same time a great discovery, which has been proven to increase the fish population.

2016

Diopas S.A. innovates and manufactures “bulletproof” nets, which significantly reduce the cost of managing nets and fuel consumption.
